(Seven battle strategies for defeating temptation.)1) Define your temptation.
James 1:14-15
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is
full-grown, brings forth death.

2) Take reponsibility for your temptation.
Genesis 3:12-13
Then the man said,
“The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of
the tree, and I ate.
”And the LORD God said to the woman,
“What is this you have
done?” The woman said,
“The serpent deceived me, and I ate.
”

3) Realize Satan is the source of temptation.
James 1:13
Let no one say when he is tempted,
“I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be
tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride
of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

4) Know your role in defeating temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with
the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it

5) Know God’s role in defeating temptation.
Ephesians 5:15-16
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the
time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles
of the devil.
Galatians 6:1-2
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such
a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

6) Surrender your past to Christ.
Philippians 3:13-14
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things
which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in
Christ Jesus.

7) Surrender your future to Christ
Matthew 11:28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take
My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
