“HOW TO BE HAPPY ACCORDING TO JESUS”

“THE ROLLER COASTER RIDE OF LIFE”

MATTHEW 5:1-12

Where did we get the idea that the things of this world were supposed to be a source of happiness for us?

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Jesus’ message on the Beatitudes in which happiness appears to be within the grasp of those who possess certain perspectives and characteristics.

Those are the Beatitudes of Jesus- the descriptions of blessing that attend those who live by the values of the kingdom of God even while they live in this world.

Matthew 5:1-12

The Roller Coaster Ride Of Life:

The meaning of true happiness.

“Blessed” means- happy, blissful, joyous, ecstatic.

The expression was commonly seen in the book of Psalms.

Psalms 1:1 “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”

Psalm 32:1 “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.”

Matthew 5:1-12 describes nine characteristics of the happy Christian life. If you want to know what happiness is all about, search through this list that Jesus gives. Some key truths come clear through these Beatitudes:

  1.    The Pursuit of True Happiness Is Part of God’s Purpose for You and Me.

Jesus came to give life, and to give it more abundantly. John 10:10.

2.   The Pursuit of True Happiness is a Journey Inward.

A quick scan of Matthew 5:1-12, reveals thoughts that run contrary to our current ideas about happiness.

3.   The Pursuit of True Happiness is Not a Goal But a By-Product.

True joy is a by-product, not a goal.

4.   The Pursuit of True Happiness Will Lead You Ultimately to Jesus Christ.

John 15:11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

May we find happiness as we look to the words of Jesus Christ in the Beatitudes.
