“THE POWERFUL NAMES OF GOD”
“JEHOVAH TSIDKENU-THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”
JEREMIAH 23:4-6
Israel was following other gods who were more lenient to their desires, when God reveals His next name to them. The name is Jehovah Tsidkenu, “the Lord our righteousness.
The book of Jeremiah details the warning of impending judgment the Israelites were to face due to their rebellion against God. Jeremiah addresses Israel’s leadership.
Jeremiah 23:1 ““Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the Lord.”
The destruction in the culture:
Jeremiah 23:4-6 “I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the Lord. 5“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. 6In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
We see that everyone clarified his own values and did what was right in his own eyes.
Righteousness can be defined as the standard required for people to be acceptable to God.
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
When you lose your appetite for righteousness, that’s an indication that a spiritual sickness is occurring.
Actions, Not Feelings:
Living a life of righteousness may not always feel good at the moment.
Righteousness exposes areas where sin has infected your life so you can deal with the problem and return to a right relationship with God.
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Jeremiah 23:5 ““Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
Matthew 27:46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Because of Christ’s righteousness, you are credited with righteousness when you believe on His name.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
The Bible calls this new life in us an imperishable seed.
1 Peter 1:23 “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”
1 Corinthians 1:30 “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.”
A seed will not express its life until it’s planted.
Ephesians 4:24 “And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”
Romans 13:14 “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
In other words, every morning when you wake up and get dressed, you are to put on Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 61:10 “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”
1 Corinthians 1:30 “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.”
There is a wonderful concluding thought on God’s introduction of the name Jehovah Tsidkenu.
Jeremiah 23:8 “But, ‘As the Lord lives who brought up and led the descendants of the house of Israel from the north country and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ And they shall dwell in their own land.”
If you will pursue righteousness, you’ll discover your spirit being fed. Your soul will expand, your body will change, and your life will be restored as God originally intended it to be.
