EXODUS 20:13

Exodus 20:13 “You shall not murder.”

“Thou shall not murder or kill” what does that mean?

“Murder”- means some sort of homicide.

“Thou shalt not murder” is an unauthorized life taking.

So why the sixth commandment?

Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.”

Luke 1:41 “And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Matthew 1:18 “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.”

“With child” not with tissue, Mary was pregnant with a human life.

Exodus 21:22-24

The reason the unborn baby is a life is because the unborn baby possesses the image of God.

What happens when a person murders?

Capitol punishment is very Biblical but it can’t be enacted by an individual it can only be enacted by the court, government.

Number 35:30-31

There has to be two witnesses, not just one person said so. So if you tell a lie, then you will be killed too.

Capitol punishment should be public.

God will not hold him guiltless who sheds innocent blood.

Deuteronomy 19:10 “lest innocent blood be shed in the midst of your land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and thus guilt of bloodshed be upon you.”

Matthew 5:21-22

So are you a murderer?

There is a lot of anger today. When anger controls you, you become a killer.

Ephesians 4:26-32

As you destroy everyone else, you are also destroying yourself.

So how do we deal with this murderous spirit?

God’s solution for dealing with your anger:

  1. Forgive the person who caused the anger.
  2. Let God take care of the person.

Romans 12:17-21

James 1:20 “For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”

Don’t get in God’s way, give it to God and let Him handle it.
