“THE TEN COMMANDMENTS”

“THE MARRIAGE BED”

EXODUS 20:14

Exodus 20:14 “You shall not commit adultery.”

“You shalt not commit adultery, or keep sex sacred” is another way to say it.

It isn’t a mistake that it follows “thou shalt not kill..”Killing is the death of a life, adultery is the death of a relationship. And what connects both commandment is they both have the death penalty for breaking them.

Deuteronomy 22:22-24

Leviticus 20:10 “The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death.”

For it to be such a penalty, God must hold this command as important to Him, that people understand that the sexual relationship was given by God and it is to be within the boundaries of a marriage relationship.

  1.   What Is Adultery?

It is sexual intercourse involving one married person with someone other than their spouse.

Leviticus 18:1-20- deals with laws of sexual immorality.

Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

No sex outside of marriage is God’s standard! Period.

There is no doubt about it that sex is a fire, but God has created a fireplace (marriage). “There is to be no sex outside of the marriage relationship.”

2.   The Reason For This Command.

Leviticus 18:20 “Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, to defile yourself with her.”

Genesis 39:9 “There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

1 Corinthians 6:13-16

When we talk about this in this way it changes the perspective doesn’t it.

1 Corinthians 6:17-20

You cannot talk in terms, saying this is my body because it is not, it now belongs to God. You have been bought like a slave on the slave block.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-7

So God has put guardrails on marriage to protect us from danger.

But remember the ten commandments are the minimum standard. Jesus upped the price:

Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

The infraction doesn’t start with the act it starts in the heart.

2 Peter 2:14 “Having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.”

So to fix this problem, it has to be fixed at a heart level:

Matthew 5:29-30 “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”

Colossians 3:5 “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

So what about recovery?

I have some good news, the Bible is full of recovering sex addicts.

God forgives, no matter how damaged or loose you have been.

John 8:1-12- Woman caught in adultery

So are you like the woman, or are you a professional stone thrower.
