THE CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS IN THE LIFE OF JESUS

FROM THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE TO THE CROSS.


*Prayer and agony in the garden of Gethsemane: Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42; Luke 22:39-46; John 18:1- Time 1:00 a.m.


*Betrayal by Judas and arrest of Jesus: Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; Luke 22:47-53; John 18:2-12- Time 1:30 a.m.


*Jesus taken to ex-high priest Annas’s house for interrogation (trial #1): John 18:12-14, 19-23- Time 2:00 a.m.


*Peter’s first denial: Matthew 26:58, 69-70; Mark 14:54, 66-68; Luke 22:54-57; John 18:15-18-  Time 2:00 a.m.


*Jesus taken to high priest Caiaphas’s house for interrogation, where He is beaten and mocked (trial #2); Matthew 26:57-68; Mark 14:53, 55-65; Luke 22:54, 63-65; John 18:24- Time 3:00 a.m. 


*Peter’s second and third denials: Matthew 26:71-75; Mark 14:69-72; Luke 22:58-62; John 18:25-27- Time 3:00 a.m.


*Jesus appears before the Sanhedrin and is condemned to death (trial #3): Matthew 27:1; Mark 15:1; Luke 22:66-71- 6:00 a.m. “when it was day”


*Judas commits suicide: Matthew 27:3-10- 6:30 a.m.


*Jesus appears before Pilate at his official residence (trial #4): Matthew 27:2, 11-14; Mark 15:1-5; Luke 23:1-5; John 18:28-38- 6:30 a.m. “it was early”


*Jesus appears before Herod Antipas and is mocked (trial #5): Luke 23:6-12- 7:00 a.m.


*Jesus appears again before Pilate. Jesus is scourged, Pilate gives the crowd a choice to release Jesus or Barabbas, and the final judgment of death is rendered. (trial #6): Matthew 27:15-26; Mark 15:6-15; Luke 23:13-25; John 18:39, 19:1,4-16- 7:30 a.m.


*Jesus is prepared for crucifixion and mocked by Roman soldiers, and then He proceeds to Calvary: Matthew 27:27-34; Mark 15:16-23; Luke 23:26-33; John 19:2-3,16-17- 8:00 a.m.


*Jesus is crucified outside the city walls: Matthew 27:35-44; Mark 15:24-32; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-29- 9:00 a.m. “the third hour”


*Darkness engulfs Jerusalem: Matthew 27:45-49; Mark 15:33-36; Luke 23:44- 12:00 p.m. “the sixth hour”


*Jesus gives up His spirit and dies: Matthew 27:50; Mark 15:37; Luke 23:46; John 19:30- 3:00 p.m. “the ninth hour”
