“ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH CHRISTMAS?”

MATTHEW 2:1-15

What can you do this Christmas to avoid disillusionment? How can you improve your level of joy this Christmas? The answer is found in the story of the magi in Matthew 2.

Are you satisfied with Christmas?

Matthew 2:1-15

Three Lessons We Learn From This Story:

  1.   What Do You Seek?

Have you ever had that kind of experience- when you were disappointed by Christmas because it did not deliver what you thought it would? The problem is not Christmas. It is in our expectations. We are looking for the wrong thing:

Psalm 27:8 “When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”

1 Chronicles 16:11 “Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!

Psalm 40:16 “Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your salvation say continually, “The Lord be magnified!”

Jeremiah 29:13 “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Deuteronomy 4:29 “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Matthew 2:2 “saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

The wise men were seeking the King, Herod was opposing the King and the Jewish priests were ignoring the King.

Matthew 2:4-6 “And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 6‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.”

The chief priests and scribes know where Jesus is at but they don’t go to see Him!

What do your seek?

2.   Where Do You Look?

Matthew 2:7-8 “Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. 8And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

The magi looked in the right place when they looked to God.

Micah 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”

3.   What Do You Give?

They gave gold!

They gave frankincense!

They gave myrrh!

What are you seeking? Jesus

Where are you looking? Bible

What are you giving? Time, Talents, and Treasures
