“ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR LIFE?”
“PRAY FOR ME!”
COLOSSIANS 1:9-12
What did Paul pray for the Colossians?
Colossians 1:9-12
Three Things Paul Prayed For:
1. That They Would Be Filled With The Knowledge Of God’s Will.
Colossians 1:9 “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
Three elements mentioned in this verse- wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
All three go together for balance.
Paul prayed for believers in Ephesus and Colosse:
Ephesians 1:17-18 “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
Ephesians 3:19 “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Colossians 2:9 “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;”
Proverbs 2:6 “For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;”
James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
We need to pray for balance in knowledge, understanding and wisdom.
How is your prayer life? Colossians 1:9 “do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
Can I ask what fills your life?
Knowing and understanding and applying God’s Word to your life- that is wisdom.
2. That We Walk Worthy Of The Lord.
Colossians 1:10 “that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;”
Ephesians 4:1 “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.”
1 Thessalonians 2:12 “that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”
1 Thessalonians 4:1 “Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;”
The Christian life= walk and work
Is your life walking worthy of the Lord? Does your life please God?
Colossians 1:10- walking worthy of the Lord is pleasing Him, Paul list two things that pleases God:
* “being fruitful in every good work”-bearing fruit by abiding in Him.
John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
Galatians 5:22-23- By a change in your character is bearing fruit. Also by reproducing yourself is bearing fruit. Receiving love and sharing love, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
* “increasing in the knowledge of God;”
2 Peter 3:18 “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”
How much more do you know about Jesus Christ today than you did yesterday?
3. That They Would Be Strengthened With All Might.
Colossians 1:11 “strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;”
Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Ephesians 1:19-23
What is the worst thing you face right now?
Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
All you have to do is reach out and claim it.
Jeremiah 33:3 “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
We can pray as Paul prayed for yourself and other believers.
1. That you would be filled with the knowledge of His will.
2. That you would walk worthy of the Lord.
3. That you would be strengthened with all might.
Are you pleasing God?
