“ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR LIFE?”

“SEASONING FOR YOUR MOUTH”

COLOSSIANS 4:6

How to relate with those who are without:

Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

The Well Seasoned Tongue:

Your word is the representation of yourself. Jesus Christ is called the Word. We must use our words to make relationships taste better.

Your tongue has great power, it can be used for good or for bad, and to destroy.

Matthew 12:34-37

We will give an account for the words we speak.

Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

It is a confession with our mouth and a belief in our hearts that brings us to salvation.

Proverbs 15:7 “The lips of the wise disperse knowledge,
But the heart of the fool does not do so.”

Proverbs 15:14 “The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.”

Proverbs 15:28 “The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil.”

The tongue and the heart are connected.

James 3:1-12- The tongue has the power to direct, power to destroy, and power to delight.

What should our speech be like?

Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

Speak with grace and with salt.

  1.   Grace- 4:6

What is grace?

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Jesus is grace!!

Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

Acts 20:32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. “

“Grace”- God’s favor- the power of God which is able to build us up and make us what we need to be before Him.

Hebrews 13:9 “Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.”

1 Peter 4:10 “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

We need to minister grace to others. When we speak we are to speak to establish, to build up, and to minister the grace of God to others.

Acts 11:19-30- esp. 23 “When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.”

Does your speech minister God’s grace?

“Let your speech always be with grace…” vs.6

Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

We get grace from God.

James 4:6 “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

Are you growing in grace?

Hebrews 12:14-15

2.   Salt- 4:6 “seasoned with salt…”

“Salt”- is a picture of God’s truth in the Word of God.

Salt preserves:

Leviticus 2:13 “And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.”

Salt is a seasoning:

Matthew 5:13-16

To be the salt of the earth. Salt aides in cleansing and purifying.

2 Kings 2:19-22

Elisha uses salt to heal the water.

John 7:37-39

The Holy Spirit of God is filling us, if we will allow Him too.

We need to inject the water of God’s Word into our lives for healing, that is the truth, the salt.

Psalms 1:1-3

Are you stagnant, barren, and fruitless?

Mark 9:49-50 “For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

Colossians 3:15-16 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Salt has destructive uses:

Hebrews 4:12

We need to speak in the power of God and speak from the Word of God.

Is the water in your life stagnant and the ground barren?
