“BE HOPEFUL”

“LET’S WALK THE TALK”

1 PETER 3:1-6

Peter gives us a set of instructions on how to tame the wild beast. Tactical implication to apply to our lives, not just women but all of us.

  1. Order- 1 Peter 3:1

1 Peter 3:1 “Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives.”

“Likewise”-this is a continuation of chapter two, in chapter two we were talking about “submission”

1 Peter 2:13 “Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme.”

1 Peter 2:18 “Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh.”

Submission is for everyone not just the woman:

Ephesians 5:21 “Submitting to one another in the fear of God.”

“Submissive” vs.1

1 Corinthians 7:13-16 “And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 14For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 15But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. 16For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?”

“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands…”vs.1

“Submission”- depends on the Lord not on yourself.

2.  Objective- 1 Peter 3:1- To win the unsaved mate to Christ.

1 Peter 3:1 “…that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives.”

“Conduct” vs.1- or conversation, which means your lifestyle-actions, attitudes, and the way you live.

Romans 12:9-21

3.  The Strategy- 1 Peter 3:2

1 Peter 3:2 “when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.”

Must be won by your “chaste conduct…” vs.2-means pure, holy, undefiled, virtuous, actions, not just the way you live but your attitude.

Why do you want your spouse to be saved?

“When they observe” vs.2

“Accompanied with fear” vs.2

4.  The Implementation Of The Strategy- 1 Peter 3:3-6

1 Peter 3:3 “Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel.”

Correct clothing- “your adornment..” vs.3- “cosmos”- a system of the universe.

You don’t have to be under the system of the world but that of God. What are you wearing?

Peter is a fashion designer: Peter tells you what is in and what is out:

*What Is Out: Outward flash is not going to win your husband- “…arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel.” vs.3

*What Is In:

1 Peter 3:4 “rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

vs.4 “…very precious in the sight of God.”

*The Holy Women of the Old Testament: 1 Peter 3:5

1 Peter 3:5 “For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands.”

vs.5 “who trusted in God”- they trust God and were “submissive to their own husbands.

*Sara- 1 Peter 3:6

1 Peter 3:6 “as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.”

“Obeyed Abraham”- submitted to Abraham, he was an idolator before he met God.

If you are going to call yourself a Christian than live like it. Walk the talk where they can “behold” and be won by your “…chaste conduct…” vs.2
