“BE HOPEFUL”

“WHAT DO YOU KNOW?”

1 PETER 1:17-21

1 Peter 1:18 “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers.”

Theme of 1 Peter: Humility-total dependency on God. Pride-is total dependency on self.

Hope- is the foundation of our humility or trust in God.

Holiness- learning to live like God being Christlike.

Godly fear- is reverential respect for God- 1 Peter 1:17 “And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear.”

“…knowing that…” vs.18- How much do you know?

Goal: Learn to have enough knowledge to have a proper fear of God.

Three Things You Need To Know To “Conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear.” vs.17

  1.  You Should Know That God Is A Fair Judge- 1 Peter 1:17

1 Peter 1:17 “And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear.”

*God Judges Without Respect Of Person

*God Judges According To Each One’s “Work.”

Romans 14:10-12 “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” 12So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.”

2 Corinthians 5:10-11 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 11Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.”

“Terror of the Lord” vs.11- many people do not “know” enough to be afraid.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

The issue is your “work” there are those who will suffer loss, not their salvation or their life but their rewards for Christ.

vs.17 “…conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear.”

Hebrews 11:8-10

What will be judged for? Your work, not your salvation.

Colossians 3:1-2 “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

2.  You Need To “Know” That You Are Redeemed!- 1 Peter 1:18-19

1 Peter 1:18 “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers.”

“Knowing” is the key word, do you know that you are redeemed?

“Redeem”- means to cash it in, to make good.

2 Corinthians 5:11 “Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.”

In Romans chapter 6- “knowing” is the key word.

vs.18 “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold…”

1 Peter 1:19 “but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

“Precious”- means without price, no way to calculate the price of the blood of Christ.

Acts 20:28 “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”

Exodus 12:5 “Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.”

What has come between you and God?

Live what you talk and talk what you live.

Romans 10:2 “For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.”

Rekindle the fire! Not a religion but a relationship with God!

3.  Know That Your Faith And Hope Are In God- 1 Peter 1:20-21

*God Ordained His Son.

1 Peter 1:20 “He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.”

Christ was “manifest” vs.20- made visible in those last times

Christ was manifest for you!!

How have you invested your life for Him?

In light of all that He has done for you, what have you done for Him? What is your work?

1 Peter 1:21 “who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”

John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Where have you placed your faith?

How much do you know? Do you know enough to be afraid?

How are you investing your life?

Are you “…conducting yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear.” vs.17
