“DOING THE RIGHT THING
“THANKSGIVING TO FAITHFUL SERVANTS OF GOD”
ROMANS 16:1-15
Paul was deeply concerned about people, relationships were immensely important to him. He loved people, just as Jesus loved him.
Giving thanks for those who are faithful servants of God:
*Faithful Friends To Thank- Romans 16:1-15
- Phoebe-
Romans 16:1-2 “I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, 2that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.”
“Phoebe”-means pure, bright, or radiant
*Christians In Rome Thanked: Romans 16:3-15
*Priscilla And Aquila
Romans 16:3-4 “Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, 4who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.”
Acts 18:1-3
Acts 18:18-19
Their home became a meeting place for worship and instruction.
1 Corinthians 16:19 “The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.”
Paul owed his life to this couple, who set aside their own safety for the sake of their friend.
*Epaenetus-
Romans 16:5 “Likewise greet the church that is in their house.
Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia to Christ.”
*Mary-
Romans 16:6 “Greet Mary, who labored much for us.”
*Andronicus and Junia-
Romans 16:7 “Greet Andronicus and Junia, my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.”
Andronicus- is a Greek name, and the name has been identified with a slave.
“Countrymen” vs.7 most likely means they were Jewish.
“Fellow prisoners”- apparently refers to an unrecorded time the apostle was imprisoned with these two believers.
*Amplias, Urbane, and Stachys-
Romans 16:8-9 “Greet Amplias, my beloved in the Lord. 9Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and Stachys, my beloved.”
*Apelles and Aristobulus-
Romans 16:10 “Greet Apelles, approved in Christ. Greet those who are of the household of Aristobulus.”
*Herodion and Narcissus-
Romans 16:11 “Greet Herodion, my countryman. Greet those who are of the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord.”
*Tryphena, Tryphosa, and Persis-
Romans 16:12 “Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, who have labored in the Lord. Greet the beloved Persis, who labored much in the Lord.”
*Rufus and His Mother-
Romans 16:13 “Greet Rufus, Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.”
Rufus means red.
Mark 15:21 “Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross.”
Simon carried the cross of Jesus, and he is the father of Rufus, all the saints at Rome would know Rufus because he was outstanding in the church.
*Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the Brethren-
Romans 16:14 “Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren who are with them.”
*Philologus, Julia, Nereus, and His Sister, Olympas, and All the Saints-
Romans 16:15 “Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them.”
A church should be eager to express appreciation for one another for specific reasons that can be called to mind quickly.
So We As Believers Should:
*Accept One Another
*Become A Servant
*Cultivate Esteem For Others
*Demonstrate Your Love
