“STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD”

“SIX STEPS TO HELP IN TRANSITION”

JOSHUA 1:1-8

Joshua 1:1-2 “After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.”

God spoke face to face with Moses as a friend.

Exodus 33:11 “So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.”

The children of Israel weep for Moses 30 days:

Deuteronomy 34:8 “And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses ended.”

“Joshua”- means Jehovah saves.

Six Steps To Help In Transition:

  1.   The Principle of Divine Perspective:

Joshua 1:3 “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.”

Joshua 1:5 “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.”

The same God who has been with me in the past, will be the same God who will be with me in the future. We can stand on the promises of God:

Psalm 48:14 “For this is God, Our God forever and ever;
He will be our guide Even to death.”

2.   The Principle of Divine Purpose:

Joshua 1:3-4 “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.”

God’s commandments are His enablements.

3.   The Divine Persuasion:

Joshua 1:6-7 “Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”

“Strong”- resolute, don’t be swayed.

“Courage”- daring, boldness.

God gave Joshua a divine persuasion.

4.   Divine Priority:

Joshua 1:7-8 “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

The highest priority of your life as a believer is the Word of God!

Joshua only had the first five books of the Bible!

He was too:

*Talk About it Constantly- “shall not depart from your mouth…” vs.8

Joshua 8:34-35

Joshua was constantly talking about the Word of God.

*Meditate on it Continually- “day and night…” vs.8

Psalm 1:2

Philippians 4:8

*Read it Obediently- “observe to do according to all that is written in it.” vs.8

James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

*Follow it Exclusively-“do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” vs.7

It is not partial obedience, but total obedience.

*Accept it Totally- “according to all that is written in it.” vs.8

Joshua 23:6

Joshua kept what he was commissioned to do.

Deuteronomy 17:17-20

5.   Divine Presence:

Joshua 1:5 “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Joshua 1:9 “…for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

God will be with you always.

6.   The Divine Prosperity:

Joshua 1:7 “… that you may prosper wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:8 “…For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

His purpose:

The love of Jesus- all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength

The love of the lost- evangelism, edification, and equipping.

The love of each other- love your neighbor as yourself.

We have been taught to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. We need to do that.
