“STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD”

“WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT GOD IS DOING”

JOSHUA 6:6-16

There are three things we can learn from this passage to help you when you don’t know what God is doing?

Three Concrete Steps To Know What God Is Doing:

  1.   Do What You Know To Do And Don’t Worry About What You Don’t Know.

Commit to do what you know to do!

There is always goin to be things you don’t know.

Joshua 6:7 “And he said to the people, “Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord.”

Every aspect of how he lined them up has significance. Every aspect of our walk with God is important for God has a plan for us.

*The first people to lead the parade: Men armed with swords pass on before the Ark of the Covenant.

Joshua 6:7 “and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord.”

This is a picture of how we should follow those who can rightly divide the Word of God. Hebrews 4:12

2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

*The priests and trumpets come next:

Joshua 6:8 “So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Lord advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.”

This is our mission- to be witnesses of Jesus Christ: Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8

As we walk we are to be witnesses for our Lord.

*Next we see the “rear guard”:

Joshua 6:9 “The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets.”

Abraham walked before the Lord:

Genesis 17:1 “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”

This is a walk of maturity, walk before Me.

Deuteronomy 13:4 “You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.”

The walk of a servant, he walks after the Lord or follows after.

Genesis 5:24 “And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

Enoch was raptured, but it says Enoch walked with God and was not, for God took him.

Colossians 2:6-7 “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

Today as believers we can walk before the Lord, after the Lord, with the Lord, but we can also walk in the Lord.

Joshua gave no other details than this walk, he didn’t give a five year plan or any other direction but just to walk.

Your daily walk before the Lord in His Word- the Sword.

Your daily walk behind the Lord- serving other people.

Your daily walk with the Lord- loving people wherever you go.

You daily walk in the Lord- Jesus carrying us and empowering us wherever we go.

Realize today God walks in you, and He desires to live through you. We don’t have to know the reasons why? Just walk!!

There are some things you don’t need to pray about, you already know what your supposed to do, so just do them-walk.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”

Four expressions of God’s will:

*Living sacrifice: Romans 12:1-2

*Be sanctified, set apart:

1 Thessalonians 4:3 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;”

*Give thanks in all things:

1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

*To do what is right:

1 Peter 2:15 “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.”

2.   Keep Your Mouth In The Closed Position

Joshua 6:10 “Now Joshua had commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout.”

Joshua- people do what I told you to do.

James 3:1-6

A mature person is one who can keep their tongue under control.

Psalm 141:3 “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Paul is saying if you will get in the Word of God and let it get into you, you will be able to bridle your tongue.

3.   You Just Keep Going Even If You Don’t See Immediate Results.

Joshua 6:15-16 “But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. 16And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!”

The key to victory is to obey God in the present tense.

Just keep walking even if you don’t see immediate results:

What will you do?

Three ways you can serve God:

  1. To make the best plans we can and hope to succeed.
  2. To make our own plans and ask God to bless them.
  3. To ask God for His plan and then do what He tells us to do.
