“THE JOURNEY OF LIFE”
PSALM 25:1-22
Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.”
David knew that the path of life wasn’t easy, but he was able to succeed in his journey because he held to three facts about God:
- The Help I Need Comes From God- Psalm 25:1-7
Psalm 25:1 “To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.”
David lifted up his soul or heart to the Lord because God is the only true source of encouragement.
1 Samuel 30:6 “Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”
When the outlook is bleak, try the up look.
Psalm 25:2-3 “O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed;
Let not my enemies triumph over me. 3Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.”
David not only prayed for God’s guidance, he also asked for insight to understand God’s Word:
Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.
God doesn’t just show kindness, He shows us “loving kindness.”
Psalm 25:6 “Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old.”
1 Samuel 12:23 “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.”
John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
David’s prayer was also one of confession:
Psalm 25:7 “Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord.”
Psalm 25:11 “For Your name’s sake, O Lord, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.”
Psalm 25:18 “Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins.”
To enter into God’s presence we have to have clean hands and a pure heart.
Psalm 24:3-4 “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.”
Psalm 121:2 “My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
2. God Can Be Trusted- Psalm 25:8-14
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
*God is Good and Upright
Psalm 25:8 “Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.”
Nehemiah 1:7 “We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses. “
*God will Guide Us
Psalm 25:9-10 “The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. 10All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.”
John 7:17 “If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.”
James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
*God is Merciful and Gracious to Those Who Repent
Psalm 25:11 “For Your name’s sake, O Lord, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.”
Ephesians 4:32
*God has a Plan for Our Lives
Psalm 25:12 “Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.”
James 4:8 “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Psalm 16:11 “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Psalm 25:13-14 “He himself shall dwell in prosperity, And his descendants shall inherit the earth. 14The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.”
“Secret” vs.14- means intimate conversation, plan and purposes.
3. Trusting God Brings Victory- Psalm 25:15-22
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
What was David’s burden?
*Danger
Psalm 25:15 “My eyes are ever toward the Lord, For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.”
*Loneliness
Psalm 25:16 “Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, For I am desolate and afflicted.”
Lamentations 3:22-25
*A Broken Heart
Psalm 25:17 “The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses!”
*Regrets
Psalm 25:18 “Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins.”
I John 1:9
*Fear
Psalm 25:19-20 “Consider my enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred. 20Keep my soul, and deliver me;
Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3 “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”
Isaiah 26:3-4 “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. 4Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.”
*Despair
Psalm 25:21-22 “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You. 22Redeem Israel, O God, Out of all their troubles!”
Isaiah 41:10
1 Peter 5:9 “Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
Our troubles come to pass not to stay.
There are two way you can go. Your way or God’s way. God gives us the choice:
Proverbs 16:25 “There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.”
Psalm 119:105
